A mid 20th century oil depicting the church at Deddington, England, from artist George R. Deakins. This street scene, with it's expressive palette knife marks captures Deakin's original style and character. Presented in a modern white wooden frame. Signed. On canvas board.


Areas of surface dirt and minor discolouration. Marks to the frame, however these are minor.

Artist Biography

George R. Deakins was born in 1911, and is best-known for his expressive oils, often completed using a palette knife. Self-taught, he was born in Gosport of a naval family. Deakins served with the Royal Navy for 22 years from 1927 and during this time he exhibited throughout the world, with over 60 one-man shows. When he retired he opened a studio at Dunster, Somerset, where he lived until his death.
