George Charles Francis (1860-1940) - Alf Parrish's Cottage Malding Green 1921

Description
George Charles Francis (1860-1940) - A charming watercolour inscribed Alf Parrish's Cottage, Malding Green, 28/3/21 - Easter Monday. Signed.Francis lived at 13 Robert Streeet, Hampstead Road, London NW1. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1907-1931. All of these watercolours are from 3 albums, one dated 1927. Each one is signed GC Francis, dated and inscribed, all in pencil, unless otherwise noted. They are unusual because they are painted on grey paper. This requires a different watercolour technique. Normally whites in watercolours are produced by leaving blank areas of paper. Painting on grey paper yields a richer, fuller colour palette. Whites are produced by using bodycolour, which is present in most of these paintings. Because these are from an album and have never been displayed, the condition is generally excellent: no nicotine or light stains, no fading, no damp stains. No foxing. There is the occasional dog-eared corner, and a few have short repaired tears in the lower corners as shown. I am very impressed with the quality of many of these works.Size: 18 x 25cm (7.1" x 9.8")Code | gk5 |
