Garman Morris (act.1900-1930) - Early 20th Century Watercolour, Stormy Seas

A delicate early 20th Century watercolour with gouache highlights by the artist Garman Morris (act.1900-1930). The artist has depicted a gentle seascape with small ships sailing through the stormy waters. The artist's fine attention to detail contrasted with large sweeping brush strokes, expertly highlights the ambience of the scene.

Well presented in a washline mount and a speckled gilt effect frame, as shown. Signed in the lower right hand corner.

Signed. On watercolour paper.

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and very minor foxing. The frame contains some very minor scuffed edges but generally in good condition.

Artist Biography

Painter in watercolour of marine, beach and coastal scenes. This artist's work is similar to that of Garmon Morris in dimensions, theme and method and it has been suggested by various auction houses that they might well be one and the same artist. His watercolours tend to be small defined fishing boat studies often tall and thin in shape. The subjects included West Country views such as St.Michael's Mount and were often signed 'Avondale'.
