Framed Mid 19th Century Watercolour - Figures Outside a Coach House
Description
An interesting early to mid 19th century watercolour depicting figures outside a large brick building, possibly a farm or coach house. A small dog can be seen running towards a lady with her back to the viewer, with a young lady and child walking through the archway. Particular attention has been given to the architecture of the building, with Gothic carved stone heads and wooden windows clearly distinct within the composition. The artist has captured a wonderful snapshot of life during the 19th century. Well presented in a washline mount and gilt frame. Unsigned. On wove.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing. There appears to have been some restoration to the substrate, with various tear repairs to the upper edge. Largest closed tear measures 14cm. Minor surface marks and dirt. 8cm tear and hole to the lower right, through the washline line.
