Fine Framed 20th Century Oil - Seated Girl in Smock

Description

This fine 20th century oil painting depicts a three quarter length portrait of a young child in a red spotted smock dress. There is an illegible and indistinct signature to the top right, and possibly a date. The signature is partially obscured by the frame. The painting is very well presented in a beautiful rosewood frame with a gilt slip. Signed indistinctly, On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

There is some light scattered craquelure to the background area, specifically the areas painted in brown depicting the chair that the child is seated on. This craquelure is only visible upon closer inspection. There is a small surface abrasion mark along the left margin of the picture. Inspection under UV light reveals an area of restoration. There is a closed tear to the upper right section of the picture, specifically the area immediately to the right of the child's face. This repair is visible on the reverse, as shown in the photos. There is some light scuffing and scattered surface marks to the frame. However, the overall appearance of this painting and its frame is very good.
