A finely painted and highly detailed 19th Century oil painting by the artist Ernest Gabriel Mitchell (1859-1926), depicting an autumnal landscape in Epping Forest including a figure tending to the fallen leaves. This wonderful oil painting depicts an idyllic English landscape during the autumn season. A young man is portrayed in the centre of the picture with large trees dominating the composition behind. The dramatic use of dark contrasts and earthy tones, provides the viewer with depth and movement bringing the crisp autumnal scene to life.
Mitchell was born near Birmingham in 1859 and lived in Hockley Heath in Warwickshire. Known for his delicate and atmospheric pieces, Mitchell had a relatively successful career having exhibited with the RBSA from 1879. Many works by the artist have sold well at auction, highlighting the valuable nature of the artist.
Signed, dated and inscribed on the reverse with the title and location. Displayed in a well presented wooden gilt effect frame with fine detailing, as shown.

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. Generally in good condition.
