Ward started painting relatively late in life, joining the St. Ives School of Painting in 1987. Since then his career has gone from strength to strength, after being featured on the BBC2 series 'Video Diaries', Halsgrove Publishing produced a large-format 144 page book that included over 100 images of Ward's work, entitled 'Eric Ward’s St. Ives: From His Studio and Beyond'.
