DescriptionThis delightful scene depicts the thick undergrowth of a forest, covered with jewel coloured ferns. To the bottom right a rabbit grazes in an open clearing. Signed and dated to the lower right. On canvas on stretchers.
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration to the varnish and some areas of craquelure to the surface.

Enoch Crosland was an artist, antique dealer and furniture restorer born in Rotherfield, Nottinghamshire the son of a wholesale druggist. He painted genre pictures and showed them at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Nottingham Castle Museum, Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists and was a member of the Nottingham Society of Artists. He died in Derby and an example of his work is in the collection of Derby Museum and Art Gallery.
