A delicate pastel study with graphite detail by British artist Edward Morgan (1933-2009). The sensitivity to form and tone apparent within the composition, shows Morgan's impressive skill as a draughtsman. Wonderfully presented in a card mount and wood frame. Signed and dated. On wove.

Condition

There is light discolouration to the page and scuff marks to the frame. Otherwise the artwork is in fine condition.

Artist Biography

Albert Edward Joseph Morgan (1933-2009) was a painter, born in Wolverhampton, West Midlands. Working as a commercial artist, he designed advertisement materials for the confectionery company, Cadbury. He also produced many advertisements for local papers and gained much success as a lapel badge designer. However Morgan’s passion for fine art remained a constant and he began to develop a unique style he named ‘roundism’. Morgan based his ethos around the idea that nature is entirely based around the circle and rounded shape, stating; ‘it is man that has invented the straight line’.

Morgan’s artwork is both optimistic and celebratory in style, this is evident in his attitude towards art making; ‘For many years I painted in a realistic manner before creating this style... [it] gives me great contentment of mind. Painting has become an adventure, and for me each picture has a great meaning'. Morgan exhibited his work at the Royal Academy, the Laing Art Gallery, and the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists.
