(1793-1867) Signed in pencil to the lower right under the image and inscribed on the reverse, in a cream mount. Signed. On wove. Condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Some bleeding of the colours into the plate margin.

Douglas Ian Smart (1879-1970) was the son of British painter Charles Ion Smart - he is often also called Douglas Ion Smart.
Smart was born in Hammersmith, London in 1879. Smart studied etching and engraving under Frank Short and was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in 1905 and a full member in 1922. Smart also showed at Colnaghi, Chenil Gallery, Connell & Sons, Fine Art Society, Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, International Society of Sculptors, Painters & Gravers, Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and at the Walker Art Gallery. The V&A hold a print by him in their collection. His death was recorded in Gosport, Hampshire.
