A delicate and calm watercolour street scene of the village of Pavenham in Bedfordshire, by the listed artist David James. The scene depicts thatched properties and an ecclesiastical building with figures, and the artist has employed minute brush strokes in order to portray building materials accurately. Well-presented in a card mount with dark wooden glazed frame. Signed to the lower left and inscribed 'Pavenham', as shown. Signed and dated and inscribed. On wove.

Artist Biography

David James started painting in 1982 when he was still working as an engineer. Subjects vary, mainly landscapes, townscapes, also many architectural works, and he also enjoys capturing nostalgic subjects including steam trains working in watercolour. He also enjoys pencil drawing, pencil and wash and pen and wash as an alternative.
