Claude Spero - Late 19th Century Watercolour
DescriptionClaude Spero - A superb watercolour. Unsigned, but from an album of works by Claude Spero. Claude Spero was a French artist working primarily on the South coast of France in the late 19th and early 20th Century. All of the works that we are selling are from an album of his watercolours and drawings. Many are signed and a few are dated (all from the 1890's). All are unquestionably by his hand. Because these works are from an album, they have never been exposed to light, smoke, or other noxious influences. As a result, they are generally in the finest original condition. Some look as if they could have been painted yesterday. (There are a couple of exceptions where it appears the works were displayed and later added to the album, and this has been noted). The works are of varying levels of finish: some are rough sketches, some are unfinished, and some are magnificent polished works of art. All are unframed.
