Charles William Cole - Late 19th Century Pen and Ink Drawing, Young Lovers

A late 19th century pen and ink drawing depicting a young couple seeking a moment of privacy, which has been disrupted by the young lady's father. The figures are well drawn, especially the older gentleman, whose disapproving facial expression makes the scene quite comical. Unsigned. On wove.

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and minor foxing.

19.6 x 30.5cm (7.7" x 12")
Sheet: 20.8 x 32cm (8.2" x 12.6")

Collection Information

From an album entitled Sketches, C.W. Cole. We believe some of these sketches were produced for The Graphic Magazine 1884-1885. Another sketchbook by the artist is in the collection of the National Library of Ireland produced when the artist accompanied HRH the Duke of Edinburgh on his "Relief of Irish Distress" tour of the west of Ireland in 1880.
