A gentle hand-coloured after David Roberts, R.A.
The artwork displays figures amiably reclining under the shadows of the monument on a scorching day.
Inscribed on the rear is a note which reads:
'At Luxor Thebes, Upper Egypt
A view of part of the elegant papyrus bunched columns in the courtyard of Amenophis III (1417-1379 B.C.) in the temple of Amun, Luxor. Roberts has exercised a little artistic licence here in omitting other architectural elements close by in order to concentrate the eye on the harmony of the columns.'
The artwork is Signed and inscribed on the rear, and well presented in a wood frame with a gilded inner edge and a blue mount board.Signed, inscribed and dated on the reverse. On Paper.
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing. The frame has some wear and scuffing.
