DescriptionAn interesting watercolour composition with gouache highlights by the artist Grenville Cottingham, depicting a canal gate. Well-presented in a double card mount and in a simple gilt effect frame. Signed and dated. On watercolour paper.
Overall in good condition, with slight discolouration. Minor marks and light foxing to the mount. Some small scuffs and marks to the frame.

Grenville Cottingham (1943-2007) was a painter and printmaker born in Exeter. He studied at Exeter College of Art from 1960-63 under Clifford Fishwick and at Liverpool College of Art from 1963-64. He was appointed as artist and teacher to the Seafarers Education Service by the director of the Marine Society. In three years, he travelled 150,000 miles on various ships throughout the world. He exhibited many times at the RSMA and was elected a member in 1988. He was also a member of the RBA and exhibited at the RA, RI and held solo exhibitions at Woodlands Gallery, Blackheath, Quay Arts Centre, Isle of Wight and at the Hallam Gallery, London.
