Leslie Ray - 20th Century Misc, Profile of Lord Nelson

Item Sold

A 20th Century wax relief portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, 1st Duke of Bronté, KB (29 September 1758 – 21 October 1805). The portrait is presented on black card in a handsome black frame with oval, brass edged inner window with domed glass. The frame has a brass relief detail of an acorn at the top.

Sulis Fine Art is also pleased to be able to present another wax relief of a young woman by the same artist in an identical frame, should the buyer wish to acquire a fine pair.

Signed and inscribed on the reverse. On board.

The condition is typical for a piece of this age including some discolouration. There are two cracks, one across the face and neck and one across the tip of the hat. The wax has been discoloured, especially around the ruff. The frame itself has some stress cracks to the veneer and the brass inner is slightly tarnished.
