DescriptionA delicate watercolour by the listed artist Creswick Boydell, depicting a lakeside cottage. Monogrammed in the lower left hand corner. Well presented in a washline mount and a gilt effect frame. Signed with monogram. On watercolour paper.
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and very minor foxing. The frame contains some very minor scuffed edges. Overall in good condition.

Painter born James Joseph Boydell in Leigh, Lancashire whose father John Boydell was a landscape painter. Nothing is known of his art training but he did exhibit at the Walker Art Gallery, Royal Academy and the Royal Society of British Artists and at the Royal Cambrian Academy of which he was an Associate member. He was also a member of the Liver Sketching Club during the last decade of the 19th century. In 1891, he produced several works which were hung in S. S. Ibex.
