Fine Early 20th Century Oil - Figure in a Courtyard
DescriptionA well executed and well compostioned early 20th century oil depicting several figures in a sunlit courtyard. The sun rays entering the open courtyard contrasts beautifully with the darker sheltered area of the alleyway, where a mother is seated with her baby resting on her knee. The artist has very skillfully and effectively portrayed an everyday scene of a hot afternoon in a continental town. The painting is well presented in an ornate gilt effect frame. Unsigned. On panel.
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and yellowing to the varnish. Scattered areas of craquelure are also present. The frame has undergone several areas of restoration due to losses to moulding. These areas have been re-moulded and painted over in gold, as shown in photos. There is also cracking to the moulding on the frame, as shown.
