William Carter (fl.1836-1876) - 1836 Oil, Lake Landscape with Figures
DescriptionA fine 19th century atmospheric landscape. The artist has finely captured this expansive view with figures in a detailed manner. This fine composition is well presented in an ornate gilt effect frame with affixed name plaque. Signed. On canvas on stretchers.
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and surface dirt. There are areas of craqueleure. The canvas has been relined. Inspection under UV light reveals very small areas of restoration. With dabs of overpainting to restore small flakes of paint loss to the lower left corner and to the sky area. Minor marks to the frame.
