A charming and expressive early 20th Century oil painting by the artist Paul Joseph Barian, depicting a rural countryside cottage study. The delicate brushstrokes and fine attention to detail, delicately portrays this rural countryside scene. The artist has used sweeping expressive brushstrokes in muted, earthy tones to expertly highlight the ambience of the scene.
Barian was a pupil of Alexandre Leleu and Jean-Léon Gérôme, he exhibited at and became a member of the Salon des artistes français. He won bronze, silver and gold medals there. In 1928 he was awarded the Croix de Chevalier of the Legion of Honour.
