Painter, sculptor and printmaker born in West Kirby, Cheshire. He attended Epsom School of Art 1961-63 where he studied painting and sculpture. He has travelled extensively in Europe and North Africa before moving to Cornwall in 1970. In Cornwall he worked in many trades including farming, building fishing and tin mining. He continued his travelling and in 1983 he visited Italy primarily to study icons and in 1987 paid the first of several visits to India. The resulting paintings have been thematic in his work ever since. Walker has taught variously at Penzance School of Art and Falmouth College of Art and local primary schools.
Rod Walker’s first solo exhibition took place in 1975 at the Newlyn Orion Gallery, Penzance and since 1976 he has been a regular exhibitor at the Penwith Gallery, St. Ives. He has also shown at the Wills Lane Gallery, St. Ives, New Craftsman Gallery, St. Ives, Porthleven Gallery, Porthleven, Salthouse Gallery, St. Ives, Austin Desmond Fine Art, Eye Gallery, Bristol, Suddaby Fine Art, St. Ives, Andrew Usiskin Gallery, Hampstead and in Lorient, Brittany, France. In 1982 he assisted architect Barry Briscoe in the painting of eleven murals at the University of Manhattan, New York, USA. His most recent solo exhibitions include 'GARDEN' Trereife Art Gallery, Newlyn in 2008.
