Overall age toning and scattered foxing present. Soft creasing to corner. There is an area of surface dirt along the top margin but this does not affect the main image, which is in good condition.

Painter and etcher of architectural subjects who was born in Denholm, Roxburghshire. He was a student at the Trustees academy, later to be known as the Edinburgh College of Art before moving on to the Royal Scottish Academy Schools. By 1872 he had relocated to London where he began his career in earnest. Murray was elected a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers in 1881 and also exhibited at the Fine Art Society, Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Society of British Artists and the Walker Art Gallery. Murray produced many fine etchings and engravings after the designs of such contemporary artists as Alma-Tadema and Charles Whymper.
