Francois Spierre (1639-1681) - 1659 Engraving, Ferdinand II of Tuscany

A fine original 1659 engraving by Francois Spierre (1639-1681), depicting a portrait of Ferdinand II of Tuscany, three-quarter length, turned to left, right hand holding a baton, wearing hat adorned with large feathers, and drapery wrapped over armour; standing next to table supporting helmet. After an original work by Justus Sustermans. Inscribed with a verse of Italian prose to the lower edge. Inscribed with the artists name and date to the lower right, as shown. On laid.

In very good condition overall, especially for a picture of this age. Some light surface discolouration. There is a very small loss to the upper area of the right edge. Light creasing to the corners.
