Alexander Charles Robinson (1867-1952) - 1934 Oil, Still Life with Blue Vase
A very fine still life study by the American artist Alexander Charles Robinson (1867-1952). This wonderful study encapsulates the expressive and modern movement in Paris during the early 20th century. The dark, muted colour palette is an original take on what is usually concidered to be a bright and vivid subject matter. The confident brushstrokes and small areas of impasto come together to create a superb modern composition.
Inscribed on the reverse with the artist's name and location 'Paris'. Also with a small handwritten label.
Well presented in a simple white wooden frame.Signed and dated. On canvas on stretchers.
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and surface dirt. With minor flakes of paint loss close to where the canvas meets the frame. Inspection under UV light shows no sign of restoration. Minor marks to the frame.
