Alexander has employed a light layered palette in order to evoke the peace and quiet of the rural countryside setting. Well presented in a gilt mount and gilt frame. Signed. On watercolour paper.
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and very minor foxing. Minor marks to the frame.

Little-known painter who lived in Leeds and painted local scenes and also views of the Lake District and Wales. Legend has it that he began as a tobacconist's errand boy and made his first drawings on the inside wrapping paper of tobacco packets. He studied under a Yorkshire painter James Burras and showed at the RA, RSA and in Yorkshire. Leeds City Art Gallery holds a large collection of his watercolours.
