Doug Fidler - 20th Century Oil, Jockeys on the Course
DescriptionA very fine, colourful Pointillism study of jockeys on a racecourse, by the artist Doug Fidler. The riders are depicting resting, and there is a calm quality to the work overall. Fidler has layered his palette, providing a textured sense of immediacy, in pastel colours. Pointillism developed as a branch of impressionism, pioneered by Georges Seurat and Paul Signac in 1886. Well-presented in a speckled and moulded wooden frame, as shown. With the artist's label to the reverse. Signed. On canvas on stretchers.
In fine condition overall. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. Very light scuffing to the frame.
