Early 20th Century Oil - Boy with Ghostly Dog
DescriptionA very unusual and intriguing early 20th Century work in oil on canvas, depicting a farm boy in a rural countryside setting, with the vision of a ghostly canine to the lower left, perched beside a low wall. The history of this curious painting is unknown. With an element of the naive, the artist has created an atmospheric background, emphasising the delicate and skillful translucency of the dog. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and surface abrasion. There are some surface marks to the edges of the canvas, particularly to the upper right corner. The canvas has six small closed tears, which have been professionally restored. These can be seen in the image of the reverse.
