A charming pair of watercolour landscapes by the Indian artist G.D. Paulraj (1914-1979), depicting two views of Kodiakanal in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. One of the watercolours is signed by the artist to the lower right. Presented in small card mounts, as shown. On watercolour paper.


The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some surface discolouration and age toning. There is also some discolouration to the mount.

Artist Biography

G D Paulraj (1914-1979) was an artist, who belonged to Kodaikanal, India. He went to the Chennai Government School of Arts and was part of the first batch under the legendary artist Debi Prasad Roy Chowdhury. He also used to publicise about World War-II through his paintings. His work can be found at the Victoria Technical Institute of Art, and as an artist, he received several awards. Paul Raj’s own quote beautifully summarises his work, “I never saw an ugly thing in life. For let the form of the object be what it may, light, shade and perspective will always make it beautiful".
