Hugh Cushing was an English architect and illustrator who is best known for his watercolour studies of landscapes. Cushing travelled the world with his work, living in many different countries where he could "meet so many people and find so many subjects to draw and paint". The majority of his work makes refernce to people, in particular the people of France and Italy. Cushing captured day to day life with his street scenes of markets, cafes and bars.
