A very fine watercolour with gouache highlights by the well listed artist John Hamilton glass SSA ARSA, depicting an early morning in Lower Largo in Scotland. Very well presented in a washline mount and a gilt effect frame. Signed. On watercolour paper.


Very minor foxing typical of a picture of this age. There is slight discolouration along the left margin. The mount and frame are in good condition.

Artist Biography

John Hamilton Glass was a Scottish artist proficient in both oils and watercolours, although chiefly painting in the latter. He painted landscapes, coastal and river scenes. Little is known of his personal life, although he lived in Musselburgh near Edinburgh in Scotland and often worked along the east coast, and sometimes Iona. He exhibited works in the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Hibernian Academy.
