Fine Mid 20th Century Oil - Harbour Promenade

Item Sold

A very fine impressionist work in oil on board, depicting a harbour scene with moored boats and figures along a promenade. The artist has created this evocative and highly romanticised street scene in a light pastel palette, echoing the shifting colours and patterns of French Impressionism. The composition is well-balanced, with figures strolling at the harbour edge, and many boat masts can be seen in the distance. The overall harmony of the scene is enhanced by the duality between the two figures to the left, and two fishing boats to the right.

Signed indistinctly to the lower left corner, and inscribed illegibly to the reverse.

Signed indistinctly, On board.

In very good condition overall. There is some scuffing and surface abrasion to the edges, and a small stable 2cm crack to the lower edge. Minor loss to the substrate in the upper left corner.
