Oval Early 19th Century Embroidery - Venus with Winged Cupid
DescriptionAn early 19th century silkwork embroidery depicting Venus and a cupid in a garden setting. The face and hands of the lady have been painted with watercolour onto paper and the paper has been fixed to the panel. The cupid figure has also been painted on paper and fixed onto the panel. The silk has been pinned onto the edges of an oval panel. Unsigned. On panel.
The condition is typical for embroidery of this age including some overall yellowing. There are missing threads to the top section of the picture where the threads have started to fray. Overall colour retention is good. There is a small tear to the paper on which the cupid has been painted.
