Margaret Gere NEAC (1878-1965) - Mid 20th Century Oil, Female Nude with a Mirror

£312.00

Description

An impressive oil painting by the artist Margaret Gere NEAC (1878-1965), showing a standing female nude, turned away from the viewer and looking into a mirror. The artist's expressive yet soft brushstrokes beautifully capture the fleshy curvature of the woman's body. The model stands with a slightly confidant posture. The work has a vulnerable quality, with the model grasping the side of the mirror with her left hand, perhaps uncomfortable under the viewer's gaze. An interesting example of a woman artist's approach to the female nude, this painting presents a subtle femininity lost on so many male painters. Inscribed to the reverse 'Margaret Payne, 3 Old Hall Close, Pinner'. Inscribed on the reverse. On board.

Condition

In fine condition overall. Very minor scuffing to the edges of the board. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration.
