Michael Bowman - Signed and Framed 1980 Oil, View of Dorchester High Street
DescriptionA very fine late 20th century oil from English artist Michael Bowman, depicting Dorchester's High West Street, a popular subject for the Dorset native. St Peter's church is visible on the left, while the clock tower is part of the Corn Exchange. Painted in a broad impressionist style with a gentle touch that alluringly expresses the light and contrasting patterns of colour and tone within his subject matter, Bowman has captured a wonderful view of the traditional British high street. The sepia tones give the impression of a late summer evening, depicting a quieter, almost deserted view of the usually bustling town centre. The canvas in well presented in a modern wooden frame with gilt detail. Signed and dated. On canvas on stretchers.
Generally in fine condition. Minor widening to the lower right join of the frame. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration.
