The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing. Various small tears to the lower edge, largest measures 2cm.

John Francis Salmon was a successful marine painter, who lived in Gravesend. Salmon travelled extensively to depicts his marine subjects. He exhibited widely, including at the Royal Academy. A number of his works were engraved and published by John Wood.
