Henri Cassiers was born in Antwerp in 1858. He was a Flemish artist best known for his illustrations, posters, wall plates and postcards, often with a maritime slant. Between 1886 and 1893 he illustrated many popular weekly magazines such as De Vlaamsche Patriot, Le Globe Illustré, L'Illustration Européenne. A major retrospective of his work was held in 1994, which was on display in Museum Vleeshuis in Antwerp and the Katwijks Museum in Katwijk. He died in 1944.
