DescriptionA curious Victorian oil painting on leather panel showing a young boy feeding his cat porridge. The chocolate box style was popular throughout the Victorian period as was the depiction of fictive characters. This narrative technique was popular with Victorian painters who enjoyed including symbolism and literary references within their compositions. Presented in a simple gilt frame. Signed and dated and inscribed.
Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration however there is heavy craquelure across the artwork and paint loss to the lower edge, as shown. With some surface scratches and minor losses to the frame.
