Carolyn Sergeant (1937-2018) - Signed & Framed 1966 Oil, French Orchard
Availability: In stockCode: kj734
DescriptionThe stunning oil painting depicts the scenery around Biot, a picturesque medieval village in the South of France. Carolyn Sergeant is known for her detailed still life studies, and this artwork is a clear example of her ability to capture reality whilst maintaining her expressive style. The vibrant blue tones to the sky contrasts with the warm orchard to perfectly capture the essence of the French countryside. This landscape piece has a fluidity uncommon in many of her still life studies. The time restrictions placed on a painter working en plein air has had an interesting impact, causing Sergeant to adopt a more rapid brushstroke. While the richness of tone typical of Sergeant's usual work has not been lost, this piece emanates an added energy. A dynamic piece, it is clear the artist thoroughly enjoyed the artistic process. Signed, dated and inscribed 'Near Biot South of France' on the reverse. Well presented in a contemporary antique effect frame. On board.
In fine condition. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration.
