Boris Alexandrovich Spornikov (1930-2005) - c.1960 Oil, The Haystack
An impressive oil painting probably by the Ukrainian artist Boris Alexandrovich Spornikov. Although the signature (which can be found on the reverse of the artwork) is difficult to identify the style and subject matter are conducive with Spornikov's artistic oeuvre. The rural worker was a popular subject matter amongst post-war Soviet artists. With beautifully rustic tones and attention to natural light Spornikov presents an alternative to the dominant artistic movement of the time - socialist-realism.
Labelled and inscribed on the reverse. Laid to backing card and presented in a wood frame. On wove.
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. With surface scuffs and light creasing to the artwork.
