B.A St Clair Tisdall - Signed Mid 20th Century Oil, Study of a Chestnut Horse
DescriptionThis is a finely executed mid 20th century oil by the New Zealand artist B.A St Clair Tisdall, depicting a chestnut horse by a stable door. The artist has used textured brushwork to convey the areas of light and shadow falling on the horse. Signed by the artist to the lower left and well presented in a swept gilt frame with hand painted decoration. On canvas on stretchers.
There are areas of craquelure as shown and surface spots to the upper and lower edges. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. The frame is in good condition - there is a tiny loss to the upper right corner.
