Description

A still watercolour depicting a flock of sheep resting at dusk with farm buildings visible in the distance. Presented glazed in a white mount and distressed gilt-effect frame. Unsigned. On wove.

Condition

There is some minor foxing and discolouration. Some minor dirt trapped beneath the glazing and small scuffs to the corners of the frame. Overall in good condition.

Artist Biography

Westley Horton (1846-1910) was a painter of animals and rustic scenes who was recorded as living in Birmingham in 1874-5. His work is similar in mood to that of the watercolourists and illustrators Birket Foster (1825-1899) and Helen Allingham (1848-1926).
