Atrrib. Herbert Gibbs (1852-1940) - Framed Oil, Figure in a River Landscape
DescriptionAttributed to Herbert Gibbs (1852-1940), this late 19th century oil depicts a figure crossing a small river carrying a bundle of hay, a large tree is the main focus of the composition. Well presented in a gilt effect, ornate frame with beading detail. We have attributed the artwork to Gibbs due to the inscription on the reverse which reads 'Herbert Gibbs'. On canvas on stretchers.
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration to the right hand side of the canvas. Small areas of minor craquelure. A 4cm crack to the top half of the frame (as seen in photos) also slight widening of the frame joints, especially the upper left. The corners of the frame have also been restored to a height standard.
