An interesting watercolour composition with gouache details by the artist Arthur Freeman, depicting a ship at night. There are inscriptions to the reverse. Unsigned. On watercolour paper.


The condition includes some creasing to the edges and corners. There are two small holes to the upper left-hand quadrant from water damage.

Artist Biography

Arthur Freeman (1927-1992) was a watercolour painter born in Maidstone, Kent. Mainly a painter of harbour scenes, he held solo exhibitions at the Thackeray Gallery, London, 1978, and he showed in group exhibitions at Roland, Browse & Delbanco, Campbell and Franks, Mercury Gallery, London and Belgrave Gallery, London. Examples of his work are in the collections of the City of Glasgow, GAC, and the county collections of Essex, Kent, Norfolk and Somerset.
