DescriptionAlexander Carruthers Gould RBA (1870-1948) - Signed Original Early 20th Century Oil. A hunting party at Webber Post, Exmoor, inscribed with title "Exmoor Mist" and inscribed with location to the reverse, signed to the lower right. Well presented in a black gloss veneer frame. Signed and inscribed. On board. There is some surface dirt present and some small areas of worn paint to the upper edge, just below the frame. There are a few small areas of very minor craquelure but the paint layer is stable. Inspection under UV light shows no signs of restoration. Alexander Carruthers Gould was an Essex born painter, who studied the landscapes around Exmoor and Somerset, where he lived. He was the son of renowned cartoonist Sir Francis Carruthers Gould, and was elected to the Royal Society of British Artists in 1903. He exhibited his paintings widely, including at the Royal Academy, the New English Art Club and the Grosvenor Gallery among others.
