A charming etching with aquatint detail from Boris O'Klein's 'Dirty Dogs of Paris' series, titled TW.C. Prive (private W.C.). The vibrant hand-coloured jackets worn by the dogs gives an added comic value to the illustration. Well presented in a card mount and simple wood frame. Signed and inscribed. On wove.


There is discolouration, some surface dirt, mount burn and foxing spots visible to the print. With light scuffing to the edges of the frame, as shown.

Artist Biography

Boris O’Klein (1893-1985) was born in Moscow to French parents, returning to France to live in Alsace. He served in the French army during the First World War and afterwards moved to Paris. O' Klein became an artist and cartoonist best known for his hand coloured etchings of characterful dogs pictured engaging in various amusing antics, known as the ‘Dirty Dogs of Paris’. He also painted under a pseudonym, 'Jean Herblet' gaining much commercial success as both an illustrator and painter. Upon the death of O' Klein his Grandson, reproduced a number of original plates with hand painted elements which authentically match the originals.
