18th Century Watercolour - Travellers Resting On A Log
A charming watercolour in a style very typical of the late 18th/early 19th Centuries. The scene shows a group of travellers resting on a log beneath a very finely painted tree. The painting has a light and atmosphere reminiscent of Gainsborough, seen especially in the delicate painting of the tree. The painting has been presented in a glazed Rococo style, gilt effect frame with lambs tongue beaded strap work and acanthus leaves at the corners.Unsigned. On wove.
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is some dirt trapped behind the glazing. The frame has heavy losses to the ornamentation on all sides.
